Midjourney Official FAQ

In this section, we mainly translate the official Discord FAQ article. I have only selected some commonly asked questions for translation. You can find the original drafts on the official Discord prompt-faqs.

Are terms like 4K and HD rendering useful?โ€‹

The official explanation of the word Rendering includes:

Rendering words include 4k, 6k, 8k, 16k, ultra 4k, octane, unreal, v-ray, lumion, renderman, hd, hdr, hdmi, high-resolution, dp, dpi, ppi, 1080p.

Does it work? The official explanation is:

Rendering words do *something* to your image. They may also be what's *breaking* your prompt. So, as part of troubleshooting, we recommend removing them. Removing them often fixes issues with blurring, focus, clarity, and coherence.

The meaning is that it will have an impact and a certain effect, but the disadvantages outweigh the benefits. Adding these words will actually undermine your prompt, especially in some photography scenarios where you need to use effects such as background blur. Additionally, adding 4K may also destroy the background blur effect.

Therefore, it is recommended by officials to remove these words.

Does the order of words in Prompt affect the results?โ€‹

Official explanation

Word order matters. Early words are generally more influential.

The order will affect the result, and the earlier a word appears, the greater its impact on the result. That's why I designed the template to put 'type' at the forefront because it is my most important goal.

Officials also recommend:

  1. Avoid listing words: the meaning of enumeration is to write multiple words with the same meaning in the prompt.

  2. Use specific related words: The more specific the generated image is, the more it fits with the prompt.

  3. Use sentence fragments: Don't write complex sentences like you would for an IELTS essay; instead, break up these words into smaller pieces.

  4. Avoid using placebo terms such as 4K, 8K, 16K etc.

Why isn't Seed working?โ€‹

The official rating for Seed is:

  • Seeds can not transfer the style or appearance of images across jobs.
  • Seeds can not be used to 'bookmark' styles or appearance. (i.e. "Use seed XYZ for that!")
  • Seeds are the weakest force in Midjourney. In --v 5 they may not work as expected at all.

The short summary is that this feature is very unstable with the V5 version and you should not expect it to transfer prompt across images.
